Oh Baby.

No, I'm not pregnant. I am however writing a research paper about pregnancy and I need your help.
I'd like to know what myths or common misconceptions you've heard about pregnancy. If you have children, what surprised you about pregnancy that you would have liked to know ahead of time? Good stories are always great too. I'm not squeamish, so anything's fair game (O.K. so I am squeamish, but who cares?).
So Comment Away, or email me! (I'd love you forever.)
By the way, isn't this picture cute? I think the poor baby is a little leery of that teddybear.

sure. A research paper. A likely story. Well... I had 20/20 vision before I got pregnant. As soon as the baby hit my belly, I started getting headaches, and now I have 20/50 vision and my glasses come next week. Cool huh? Pregnancy just stinks. I don't recommend it. Adoption is cool.

Let's begin... I used to have VERY curly hair and my two babies have made it almost straight. I got a hernia above my belly button that required surgery to repair. It still hurts. The leg cramps are amazing. First in the arch of the foot then when you flex back to relieve it, the front of the calf siezes so that no matter what, you are in excruciating pain. This lasts for about a half an hour. A real half hour. This baby factory is closed. If I decide I want any more kids, I'm outsourcing. Kids are awesome but pregnancy can be so very miserable.
Does Mike know about this "research paper"?

Hey Amber! So hope this helps...

I got pregnant while we were in China (yep, we have a "Made in China" baby). Anyway, people had a lot of funny advice for me in China. First of all, they NEVER let me have cold water. They told me that cold water was bad for the baby, and always served me warm water. (ick) Second, when I wore shoes with any sort of a heel- they lectured me that it was bad for the baby. And if I ever got upset or frustrated with my students they told me that "You have to be happy if you want a happy baby." Apparently if you are a cranky pregnant woman, they believe you will have a cranky baby.

I also heard a myth (well, not sure if it's true or a myth) that the nausea of pregnancy is caused completely by smell. And that women who are born without a sense of smell do not experience morning sickness. If that is true, I'm plugging my nose for the whole 9 months of my next pregnancy because my sense of smell was seriously amplified and it was terrible!

yea, it was hard- but SOOO worth it. :)
