Oh Miley!

This past weekend we chauffeured the youth in our ward to to do
a little snow tubing at Mt. Hood.
Our back seat was filled with three teenage girls.

The Pants got a little glimpse of what raising a girl will look like.
Apparently it looks like this:

And this:

And this:

Hey, he did put in a request for a little Miley.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to capture The Pants singing or his fist pumps.
(Oh yeah, he knows the words.)

It also included a trip to Dairy Queen, Glee, random picture taking,
The Jonas Brothers, some "single ladies," and gushing/swooning.
I was also glad it included a little "Bye, Bye, Bye."
Oh, it took me back.

I don't know what to call this post.

I am mourning the loss of my camera.
We can't find it anywhere.
I just hope it lost itself at the Sleighbells tree farm.
Hopefully it is enjoying Christmas cookies, crafts and the scent of pine.
We didn't really need to remember Christmas/New Year's 2009 anyway, right?
We did manage to borrow The Pants' work camera this week and snap a few photos.

We had a fabulous holiday filled with a lot of family time.
I really felt like I was able to enjoy everything about Christmas this year.
The spirit of Christ and His love was so abundant and I hope to carry it into this new year.

Here's just a little recap of the last couple of months:
November--
We had a great Thanksgiving with both of our families at one table.
The Pants researched like crazy and made a big purchase--a cowmooflage carseat!
We painted our new place. ("It'll take 4 or 5 hours," we said. 15 hours later...)
We moved into our new place with the help of our dedicated friends and family.

December--
The Pants worked tirelessly to make our new place feel like home (I was having mixed emotions about the move).
My official title was "director of household projects"-which means I watched and critiqued The Pants while he did everything in our house.
We spent time wooing Jon, Jess, Noah and Gabriel in hopes they'll move to Oregon from NYC. I think we were pretty persuasive.
We opened a massive pile of presents for baby "Henrietta," as she was dubbed. (Doesn't Henrietta Horey have a nice ring to it?!)
My most newlywedded sister and brother-in-law visited us from Utah. I loved seeing that they "fight" like my Mom and Dad. So funny.

And now here we are in the ides of January. I'll be done working in scrubs in March so I'm currently in "find a job that works with a baby" mode. It's exciting and daunting at the same time. I've been asked twice if I'm due in February and if I'm having twins or triplets-but with the help of The Pants I am feeling o.k. with a widening face and butt. We also painted the baby's room and started some baby projects. All in all we're happy, healthy and enjoying where we're at in life--right here in January 2010.

Here are some pictures of what we've done with our new home:

The apple green kitchen sans dishwasher. We're getting used to that.

Our living/dining/music room with a wall of pictures of all the people/places/art we adore.

A preview of the "sunflower" walls we painted for our little sunflower.
We testdrove the carseat. It looks great in our backseat!

And the piece de resistance...my lovely baby bump...check it out. (make sure you sing that)
Cheers to a blessed 2010!

And the winner is...

Kristina Bucheli (my sister from another mister-literally)

One snuggie is headed your way!

Her response to the news:
"Great!!! Now George W Bush and I can hang out with our

snuggies, now that we both don't have a job :)
P.S. Was it really a random drawing?"

I assure you all that it was random.
The Pants closed his eyes and picked from tiny
pieces of paper with all of your names on them.

Maybe I'll do a Portland pie winner...if I have the energy...

It's not a kitten...

We are having a (I'm sure lovely) baby GIRL.
The Goodwin estrogen genes win!
It was great to have a visual confirmation that I am indeed having a baby and not a kitten.
Really, up until the ultrasound it was difficult for me to grasp that all this sickness and a growing stomach was actually producing a human being.
It's still a bit surreal.
All her appendages and vital organs were accounted for. Quite a relief.
I also had to ask if her head looked to be normal-sized.
The Pant's head is rather large and I'm a little anxious about trying to birth a Frankenstein head (The Pants is related to Boris Karloff--Frankenstein).
They assured me it looked normal-let's hope it stays that way.

Here she is posing for the camera.

The ultrasound techs said she was a "very active baby" and they had to chase her to get all the views they needed. They may tell everyone that, I'm not sure.

A few reasons I'm excited for a girl:
clothes with bum ruffles
The Pants was made to be a Dad to girls
She'll be the first girl for her Gpa and Gma Horey
She'll have lots of company on my side of the family
She'll feel at home in Young Women's
and
I am not cut out to raise a girl so this will provide quite a challenge.

And lastly,
We will be drawing from the "girl guessers" tonight. So stay tuned to see who wins.

Both ultrasound techs own snuggies and love them.
I think it was meant to be.

What's your guess?

We will find out if our baby is a boy/girl/alien/kitten on December 2nd.
If you care to guess we will reward you handsomely.
(assuming you're picked by random from the group that guesses correctly)
If you live near Portland you will receive a homemade pie of your choice
and if you live far away you will be the proud recipient of...
[drumroll, please]
A Snuggie!

Don't pass up the chance to win big.
So start guessing.

By the way, The Pants said the funniest thing the other day.
After I explained to him that babies wear mittens on
their hands to keep them from scratching their faces,
He replied (with a perplexed look):
"Are we having a baby or a kitten?"

A Horey Halloween

We had a good two hours of happy Halloween before it was taken away with a migraine and nausea.
But it was fun while it lasted.
We borrowed my parents' neighbor kids because no one can get into our double security-gated apartment building.
Then we headed to Taco Bell for a free Black Jack Taco. It seemed so exciting-nothing's free anymore.
Unfortunately it was so gross you couldn't have paid me to eat it.
Oh well, I did give the lady at the drive-through window some candy so it wasn't a total waste.
Here are a few pictures from the night's festivities.

This picture even scares me. No wonder the kids were leery.
The Pants is an evil doctor and I'm the patient he killed.

His and hers pumpkins.

Note the focus in his face. Quite the skilled pumpkin surgeon.

We hope your Halloween was Fun with a capital F.

New Home Sweet Home

Come November WE'RE MOVING!
We'll still be downtown of course, but the new location is to die for.
I almost died when I saw the place, The Pants will attest to that.
A two bedroom brick townhouse with crown molding and original 1920's tile.
And it may just have the loveliest courtyard and be within walking distance to
everywhere you want to be in Portland.
Can you just imagine a little tricycle cruising along this sidewalk?

Oh and did I mention we get to paint?
Or rather by "we" I mean The Pants and our all-too-kind families.
I know it seems trivial, and as I type it I even feel a little holly homemaker/obsessed/silly.
But then I realize that when you feel like you have the perpetual flu anything seems exciting.
So allow me to indulge.
A somber hue of gray for the living/dining room.
And a happy shade of apple green for the tiny little kitchen.
What say ye?
Oh and you should check out the rest of this house here.
I may be in love with it.

Disclaimer: do not watch if you don't like seeing people throw up

I loved this part of The Office this week. It's just how I feel right now.

I can't stand the scent of anything, including myself. I've had to change everything I wear to unscented. The other day I bought new deodorant for The Pants that I thought I approved of, but it now makes me nauseated every time I smell it. Poor guy.

Also, our friend asked me the other day if I was feeling hormonal. I honestly thought that part of me was under control so I answered "No, I haven't felt really angry or sad like I've heard some women describe."
Then in the same conversation I was describing my awful migraines and nausea and said "I'd like to find whoever said pregnancy is fun and kick them in the face!" But no...I'm not hormonal.

Whilst grocery shopping at Trader Joe's the other night I was hit with a bout of nausea.
The "I may throw up in the produce section" kind.
Apparently I went quite pale.
I must have also had quite a look of disgust when I realized they were out of the pineapple fiber fruit bars.
Because I was met with an empathetic employee reassuring me that "it will be okay."
I didn't think I looked that bad.
Then I told him that I was pregnant and didn't feel very good.
Apparently this phrase is met with akwardness in public.
He obviously didn't know whether to say "congratulations" or "I'm sorry."
I should have assured him that this baby wasn't an accident.
Now I know.

April showers bring May babies

Our baby is due to grace this world May 2nd!
We're so excited and ready for this first trimester to be over.
I love this...
